Dua Yunus in Arabic
لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Almighty Allah says:
وَ ذَاالنُّوۡنِ اِذۡ ذَّهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ اَنۡ لَّنۡ نَّقۡدِرَ عَلَیۡهِ فَنَادٰی فِی الظُّلُمٰتِ اَنۡ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡتَ سُبۡحٰنَکَ ٭ۖ اِنِّیۡ کُنۡتُ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُنْجِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
And remember the fisherman who went away angry, then thought I could not catch him. Then he called out into the darkness: There is no god but You; You are innocent, I am guilty.
Then I responded to his call and freed him from anxiety. This is how I release the believers.
Surah Ambiya Verse No. 87-88
Almighty God also says,
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُدْحَضِينَ
فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ
لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
And Yunus was also one of the prophets.
When he escaped he reached the loaded boat.
Then he was found guilty by lottery (surti).
Then a fish swallowed him, then he became a criminal.
If he did not glorify Allah,
But he had to stay in the belly of the fish until the Day of Resurrection.
Surah Saffat Verse No. 139 – 144

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم “ دَعْوَةُ ذِي النُّونِ إِذْ دَعَا وَهُوَ فِي بَطْنِ الْحُوتِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ . فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَدْعُ بِهَا رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ فِي شَيْءٍ قَطُّ إِلاَّ اسْتَجَابَ اللَّهُ لَهُ ” .
قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ مَرَّةً عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَقَدْ رَوَى غَيْرُ، وَاحِدٍ، هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرُوا فِيهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، . وَرَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، فَقَالُوا عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ، وَكَانَ، يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ رُبَّمَا ذَكَرَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، وَرُبَّمَا، لَمْ يَذْكُرْهُ .
On the authority of Saad Ibn Abi Waqqas (RA):
He said The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The supplication that Allah’s Prophet Yunus (A.S.) made while he was in the belly of the fish was, “There is no god but You, You are Most Holy.” Surely I am of the wrongdoers” – (Surah Ambiya 87). If any Muslim person ever makes this dua in any matter, surely Allah Ta’ala will accept his dua.

How many times to read Dua Yunus?
Reciting Dua Yunus is a very effective practice to get rid of any calamity, danger, anxiety, worry, etc. There is no specific number for this. After reading it, one should make dua to Allah with utmost humility, complete sincerity, and fear.
Amir Sanani says,
If it is said, it is a Zikir; not a dua We would say, it is a Zikr with which the dua is started. After reading it, do whatever you want. (At Tanbir, 6/98)
The provision of reading Khatam Yunus
Hafez, imams, and clerics are hired by money or ordinary people to collect tasbih dana, digital counter machines, and tamarind seeds for the purpose of getting rid of dangers and calamities, getting cured of diseases, A sick patient dies easily, pardoning agony of the dead person, etc. the conventional practice of ‘Khatme Yunus’ or ‘Khatm of Dua Yunus’ by reciting seventy thousand times or one hundred lakh times or 313 or such specific number with stone pieces, pebbles, etc. is completely baseless and non-Shariah innovation. In this regard, it does not exist in the reliable books of the Qur’an, Hadith, and Fiqh, rather they are new additions (Bidat) to the Deen by the so-called elders, which gradually spread widely in Muslim society. But in fact, the worst deed is to create a new religion (innovation) in the eyes of the Shari’ah, the consequences of which are very dire.
For example, in the hadith:
عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الْحَدِيْثِ كِتَابُ اللهِ وَخَيْرَ الْهَدْىِ هَدْىُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَشَرَّ الأُمُوْرِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا وَكُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلاَلَةٌ. وَفِيْ نَسَائِي (وَكُلُّ ضَلاَلَةٍ فِى النَّارِ).
Jaber Ra. Narrated by: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said after praising and salat, “Surely the best message is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad.” And the worst thing is to create new things in religion and every new creation is corruption. (Muslim, Mishkat Ha/141).
And in Nasa’i, the end of every depravity is Hell (Nasa’i Ha/1578).
May Allah Ta’ala grant us the ability to understand things correctly and avoid all kinds of innovation and misguidance and act according to the Sunnah, Ameen.
