Isme Azam Dua in English

Bismillahir Rahmani Rahim, Today’s topic of discussion is Isme Azam, Isme Azam Dua, and Rules of Dua with Isme Azam.

What is Isme Azam and what is Isme Azam Dua?

Ism means name and Azam means so great. Isme Azam is the so great name of Almighty Allah, by which the prayer is immediately accepted. And dua is not only ordinary but also includes the dua of impossible and difficult stages such as flying in the sky, walking on water or moving from one place to a distant place in a moment, being cured of incurable diseases, etc.

Isme Azam Dua is the Dua in which Allah’s Isme Azam or So great Name is mentioned. In one word, if you call Allah’s Isme Azam or Subhan name and pray, that prayer is the Isme Azam Dua.

What is the number of Isme Azam?

Allah knows best if Isme Azam is one or many and which one or which ones. It is not clearly mentioned in Quran or Hadith. There are many narrations about Isme Azam in Quran and Hadith. From which I mention some unique descriptions.

Isme Azam

1. Al Ilah

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma bint Yazid (R.A.), that the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) said – Isme Azam is contained in these two verses –

1. Wa Ilahukum Ilahun Wahid La Ila Illa Huar Rahmanur Raheem. (Surah Baqarah: 163)

Meaning: And your Lord is Allah alone. There is no God other than Him. He is Merciful, Most Merciful.

2. Alif Lam Mim Allahu La Ilaha Illa Hual Haiyul Qayyum. (Surah Al Imran: 1-2)

Meaning: Alif-lam-meem. He is Allah, there is no god but Him. He is eternal and eternal.

Jame’ Tirmidhi, Dua Chapter, Hadith: 3478.

2. Al Hayyul Qayyum

Imam Ibn Majah and Hakim narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Umama (ra) that Isme Azam is in three Surahs. Among Surah Baqarah, Surah Al Imran and Surah Taha.

Sahih Hakim, Dua Chapter, Hadith: 1866. In Sunan Ibn Majah, Dua chapter, Hadith: 3856.

A narrator of this hadith, Hazrat Qasim (RA) said, I searched for Isme Azam in these three surahs of the Qur’an, then I came to know that it is – Al-Hayyul Qayyum.

3. Al Malikul Mulk

Narrated by Imam Tabrani al-Mu’jamul Kabir from Ibn Abbas (RA). He said, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

The Isme Azam of Allah Ta’ala through which supplications are accepted is contained in this verse of Surah Al-Imran-

Pronunciation: Kullila-humma ma-likal mulki tu’til mulqa man tashaw wa tanzhi’ul mulqa mimman tashaw watu ijzhuman tashaw wa tuzilluman tashaw biyadikal khairu; Innaka ‘Ala-Kulli Shayin Qadir.

Meaning: Say, O Allah! You are the possessor of sovereign power. You bestow kingdoms on whom You will and take away kingdoms from whom You will and honor whom You will and humiliate whom You will. All good things are in your hands. Indeed you have power over everything.

Pronunciation: Tulijul lallaila finnaha-ri watulijunnaha-ra fillaili watukhrizul haiya minal maiyati watukhrizul maiyaita minal hiyi watarzhukuman tashaw bigairi hischa-b.

Meaning: You make the night enter the day and make the day enter the night. And You bring the living out of the dead and get the dead out of the living. And you give unlimited sustenance to whomever you wish. (Surah Al Imran: 26-27)

Tabrani Kabir, Hadith: 12792.

4. Jal Jalali Wal Ikram

In a hadith narrated by Hazrat Mu’adh (RA) in Tirmidhi, the Prophet (SAW) heard a man say, “Ya Jal Jalali Wal Ikram – O Mighty and Great Honored One.” He said, your dua will be accepted. Therefore, you pray.

Jame’ Tirmidhi, Dua Chapter, Hadith: 3524. Sahih Hakim, Dua Chapter, Hadith: 1837.

Narrated by Hazrat Mujahid (RA) in the Tafseer of Surah Namal by Allama Ibn Jarir (RA). He said – The name by which supplication is accepted is Ya Jal Jalali Wal Ikram.

What is the number of Isme Azam Dua?

It is not possible to clearly say how many Isme-Azam prayers. A number of supplications containing Isme Azam are found in the Qur’an and Hadith. From which I mention some prayers. You can also call Allah by the name of Isme Azam or Sumhan and pray to Him in your own language. That too will be enough inshallah.

Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban, and Hakim narrated the hadith from Hazrat Buraydah (RA). The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) heard a person making this dua:

Hearing his dua, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

This person has made a dua through the name of Allah Ta’ala, on the basis of which Allah Ta’ala gives something when he prays and accepts any dua he makes.
