How to pray Eid prayer?

Bismillahir Rahmani Rahim, today’s topic of discussion is the rules of Eid prayers or the correct rules for reading Eid prayers, the intention of Eid prayers, whether Eid prayers are wajib or sunnah, how many obligatory Eid prayers, etc.

1. Virtues of Eid prayer

The Eid prayer has great virtues. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never abandoned the Eid prayer; He even instructed women, especially housewives and menstruating women, to join the Eid congregation. After the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Sahabah never abandoned this Sunnah. From this, the importance and virtue of Eid prayers can be inferred. Moreover, it expresses gratitude to Allah, reveals and respects the rules and regulations of Allah, and participates in the welfare work of Muslims.

2. Wisdom to introduce Eid prayer

One of the wisdom of the Eid congregation and khutbah is that no conference should be held without the remembrance of Allah and the importance of the rules and regulations of the religion. At the same time, one of the main objectives of the Shari’ah is achieved through this, and that is an exercise that every nation needs so that they can display their prowess and show an abundance of numbers. For this reason, it is desirable that everyone, young and old, women and men, women and men with menstrual periods, regardless of age, go to the Eidga and go and come differently; So that people on both paths can see the power of Muslims.

3. Provision of Eid prayer

There is disagreement among scholars about the rules of Eid, but the strongest opinion is that it is obligatory. His documents:

A. Allah Almighty has commanded this prayer

To perform the prayer (Eid prayer) for your Lord and sacrifice.

Because it is obligatory to follow the command of Allah Almighty. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also instructed women to go to the Eidga.

B. The beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) always offered the Eid prayer and he never missed it.

C. The Eid prayer is one of the manifest signs of Islam, and the manifestation of Islam is obligatory; Such as Azan, etc.

And that is why Shaykh al-Islam Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We have given precedence to the view that the Eid prayer is obligatory on every person and those who say that it is not obligatory; That view is far from documentary evidence. This is because Eid is a symbol of Islam and Muslims gather in greater numbers on this Eid than Jumu’ah, and it provides for Takbeer. On the other hand, those who say that the statement of Fard Kifaya is not reasonable.

Eid prayer is obligatory, this statement is supported by Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, Imam Shawqani, Imam Ibn Saadi, and Ibn Uthaymeen. Therefore, those who neglect to attend the Eid prayers are undoubtedly the losers on the day of rejoicing, the great sinner, and the day of the reward of Allah Almighty.

4. During the Eid prayer

During the Eid prayer, from the height of one spear of the sun to the setting of the sun. Imam Ibn Battal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The fuqaha ‘agree that the Eid prayer cannot be offered before sunrise or at sunrise.

Allama Imam Ibn al-Qayyum said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to delay the Eid al-Fitr prayer and perform the Eid al-Adha soon. Ibn ‘Umar did not go out (for the Eid prayer) until sunrise.

5. Eid prayer before the sermon

Imam Ibn Qudama (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated the consensus on performing the Eid prayer before the sermon. Imam Ibn al-Munazir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It has been proven from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he used to start the prayer before the khutbah on the day of Eid. Ibn ‘Abbas said,

I was present at the Eid prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and Uthman, all of whom prayed before the sermon (Eid).

Bukhari Tao, H / 982, Muslim Masha, H / 2069 Ibn Umar. To be described, Nasai M. H / 1564, Tirmizi mother, H / 531, Mishkat H. H / 604

6. Place of Eid prayer

The beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to leave the mosque and go out for Eid. Similar caliphs followed him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to go to the Eidga despite being near the mosque. Because that was good and he did nothing but good deeds for his ummah. However, the people of Makkah now perform Eid prayers in the Haram Sharif because Makkah is full of mountains. And the open field is far away from there.

7. There is no Azan for Eid prayer

It is narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas and Jabir that the call to prayer was not given for Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azhar (prayer). It is narrated on the authority of Jabir bin Samura that he said, “I have prayed Eid with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, many times; Without any Azan and Iqamah.

Muslim Masha, H / 206, Abu Daud Ala, H / 1146, Mishkat H, H / 1428

Imam Malik said, “This is the Sunnah so that we do not disagree, and Ibn Kudama has mentioned ijma (consensus) on it.” There was no call to gather for the Eid prayer with “Assalatu Jami’ah” (ie, gather for the prayer) or any other sentence. On the contrary, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to offer prayers as soon as he reached the Eidga.

8. Provision for reciting Nafl before and after Eid prayer

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: He said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out on the day of Eid al-Fitr (for Eidga) and prayed two rak’ahs, with no prayer before or after it.

Bukhari Tao. H / 931 and Muslim Masha. H / 1161,

Narrated Abu Saeed Khudri: He said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not pray before Eid, but when he reached home, he prayed two rak’ahs.

Ibn Majah too. H / 1293, Allama Albani called the hadith Hasan.

It is proved by these two hadiths that there is no Muakkada or nafl prayer in any Sunnah before or after the Eid prayer, which is clear from the hadith of Ibn Abbas.

But if anyone prays at home after the Eid prayer, they will be circumcised; If he has the act of reciting Salatuzuha (Chashat Salat), which is proved by the hadith of Abu Saeed.

When the Eid prayer is performed in the mosque, two Rakats of prayer will be offered. Because, Abu Qatada said, the Prophet said,

When one of you enters the mosque, he should pray two Rakats before sitting down.

Bukhari Tao, H / 444, Muslim Masha. H / 18, Nasai m, H / 630, Tirmizi mother. H / 318

9. How many Fards of Eid prayer?

Just like the five obligatory prayers, there are seven obligatory Eid prayers. such as

(1) Qiyam or standing

Allah says And stand for Allah with one heart. (Baqara 2/238)

(2) Tahrima in Takbeer

That is, Allahu Akbar says to raise both hands to the shoulders or ears. Allah says, give Takbeer for your Lord. (Muddassir 74/3). That is, proclaim his greatness. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, everything is forbidden for Salat through Takbeer and everything is permissible through returning Salam. (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Mishkat Ha/312)

(3) Recitation of Surah Fatiha

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said the person’s prayer is not complete, the person who does not recite Surah Fatiha. (Muttafaq Alaih, Mishkat Ha/822)

(4) Bowing

Allah says, O believers! Bow down and prostrate yourselves. (Hajj 22/77).

(5) Prostrate

Allah says, O believers! Bow down and prostrate yourselves. (Hajj 22/77).

(6) Tadeel Arkan or praying slowly

Abu Huraira (R.A.) said, “When a person entered the mosque and greeted the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) after the prayer, he returned the greeting and said, ‘Go back and pray.’ Because you did not pray. Thus the man prayed three times and the Prophet (PBUH) turned him back three times. Then the man said, O Messenger of God (PBUH)! By Him who sent you with the truth, I do not know how to pray better than this. So please teach me Salat! (Then he taught him to pray slowly). (Muttafaq Alaih, Mishkat Ha/790, ‘Details of Salat’ paragraph-10).

(7) Kadaye Akhirah or Last Meeting

Hazrat Umm Salama (RA) said, during the time of the Prophet (PBUH), women used to stand up after returning the salam after the obligatory prayer in congregation, and the Prophet (PBUH) and the male worshipers used to sit for some time. Then when the Prophet (Pbuh) would stand, they would also stand. (Bukhari, Mishkat Ha/948 Dua in Tashahhud paragraph-17)

This proves that sitting in the last meeting and saying salam was the regular Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Companions. It is revealed that if it is not possible to perform the above conditions and Rukans properly due to serious illness or any other practical reason, the prayer should be performed while sitting or lying down. (Bukhari; Mishkat Ha/1248). But prayer is not excused in any condition until there is knowledge.

10. The intention of the Eid prayer

Niyat means the determination of the mind. And its place is the heart; Not the face. None of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his Companions uttered any specific words. So it is a Bidat to pronounce it orally. Moreover, there are no restrained words for intention.

God the Almighty said,

They were not instructed except that they should worship Allah sincerely, establish Salat, and pay Zakat. That is the true religion.

Quran 96/5

And the Prophet said,

All actions depend on intention and man deserves what he intends.

Sahih Bukhari Hadith No. 1

It is important to note that this is not the case. But reading is a Bidat.

11. Rules for performing Eid prayer

A. How many Rakats of Eid prayer

The Eid prayers are unanimously two Rakats. Ibn Kudama, Imam Nawabi and Mawardi. Ijma has described this in this regard.

B. Provision of Takbeer of Eid prayer

It is Sunnat to say additional Takbeer in Eid prayers. This is like most of the jurists of the Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali schools.

C. Number of Takbeers of Eid prayer

In the first rak’ah, he will give seven Takbeers without the Takbeer of Ruku ‘and in the second rak’ah, he will give five Takbeers without the Takbeer of standing up. This is the opinion of Fuqaha’i Sab’ar (seven eminent jurists among the Tabi’is). Amr bin Shuaib narrates from his father and his father from his grandfather,

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave twelve Takbeers in the Eid prayer; Seven Takbeers in the first rak’ah and five Takbeers in the second rak’ah.

Ibn Majah Tao, H / 128, and Ahmad, Allama Albani have called the hadith Hasan Sahih.

He would raise both hands with each Takbeer. It is narrated in the hadith of Wail bin Hujr that he used to raise his hands with each Takbeer.

D. Zikir in the middle of takbeer

Nothing is mentioned by the Prophet in this regard. However, Uqbah bin Amer said, “I asked Ibn Mas’ud, ‘What shall I say after the Takbeers of Eid?’ He said, “Praise and glorify Allah and recite Salat (Darood) on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

E. Raising the hand during extra Takbeer

It is Sunnat to raise the hand during extra Takbeer. Most of the jurists of Hanafi, Shafi’i, and Hanbali schools hold this view. And it is like some Salaf Salehin.

F. Lesson reading before additional Takbeer

The Sunnat rule is to recite the inaugural doa (chana) before the additional Takbeers and to recite Surah Fatiha after reciting the additional Takbeers and reciting the Auzu Billahi Minash Shaitanir Razeem and Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. This is the view of most of the scholars of Hanafi, Shafi’i, and Hanbali madhab.

G. Whatever is said between every two Takbeers

Like 1st: Circumcision is the remembrance of Allah. As Imam Shafi’i and Ahmad. Like this. Ibn Munzir and Ibn Taymiyyah. Liked it.

2nd opinion: There is no specific prayer in this case; Rather, the praying person can say Takbeers endlessly. This is the school of Hanafi and Malikis. Imam Nawabi Rah. In this case, most of the scholars have described the predominance. Ibn Hazm, San’ani, and Ibn Uthaymeen have accepted it.

H. Recite the Qur’an aloud in the Eid prayer

In the Eid prayer, the Imam will recite the Qur’an aloud. Ibn Kudama and Imam Nawabi. In this case, Ijma has described.

I. Qirat of Eid prayer

Sunnat recites Surah Qaraf after Surah Fatihah in the first rak’ah of Eid prayer and Surah Qamar after Surah Fatihah in the second rak’ah. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite these two Surahs on both Eids, which are narrated in the hadeeth of Abu Waqeed al-Laisi.

Or Surah Al-A’la in the first rak’ah and Surah Ghashiyah in the second rak’ah. Because, in the hadith narrated by Numan bin Bashir, it is said that the Prophet used to recite two Surahs in the Eid prayer.

Muslim Asha, H / 205, Mishkat H. H / 640

When Eid and Jumu’ah meet on the same day, there is no objection to reciting both Surahs in Eid and Jumu’ah; Because it is Sunnah to recite both Surahs in those two prayers.

12. If you come late for Eid prayer

If a devotee arrives late and joins in the rak’ah without giving up the extra Takbeers, then the missed Takbeers will not make up for it. This is the school of Shafi’i and Hambali. Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen. Liked it like this.

13. Making up the Eid prayer

(A) If the news of Eid is known after the sun has fallen over the head (in the afternoon), then perform the prayer on the next day (Eid). Because it is narrated in Hadith

It is narrated from Umayr bin Anas that he narrated from one of his uncles of the Ansar tribe that he said, “Once we did not see the new moon of the month of Shawwal because of the clouds, so we fast in the morning. Then, at the end of the day, a group of passengers came and testified that they had seen the new moon yesterday. As a result, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed them to break the fast on that day and to go out (to the Eidga) for Eid (prayer) the next day.

Ahmed and Nasai, Abu Dawood Ala. H / 1159, Sunan Ad-Darakutni Masha, H / 14, Allama Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) said the hadith is Saheeh

(B) If the Imam (Eid prayer) is in Tashahhud (in which case one joins the congregation), then he will also sit in Tashahhud, then when (Imam) takes back the salam, he will stand up and pray two Rakats, Takbeers in two Rakats Will read.

(C) If a person cannot perform the Eid prayer with the Imam (runs away), there is disagreement.

1st opinion: He will perform four Rakats of Kaja, this opinion is of Imam Ahmad and Imam Saori. Their document is the saying of Abdullah bin Masood, whose Imam missed the Eid prayer and asked him to perform four rak’ahs.

2nd opinion: He will pay two Rakats of Kaja. Imam Bukhari said that if the Eid prayer is missed, then the chapter will be two Rakats. According to this, women and those who live at home and in the countryside will also pray two rak’ahs. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: This is the Eid of our Muslims (Bukhari and Muslim) and Anas bin Malik ordered his freed slave Ibn Abi Utbah to gather his family and sons at a place called “Jabiya” and to pray (Eid) with Takbeer Realizes.

14. Friday and Eid coming together

A. It is narrated on the authority of Yas bin Abi Ramlah that he said: I was present with Mu’awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): Friday) were together? He said yes. Then He asked, then how did he do it? He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the Eid prayer, then except for Jumu’ah, he said, “Whoever wants to, will offer the (Friday) prayer.”

Abu Dawood Ala, H / 1060 and Ibn Majah, Sunan Ad-Daremi Masha, H / 1712, Allama Albani have said that this hadith is Saheeh.

B. Narrated Abu Hurairah: He said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘You have two Eids together on this day, so it will be enough for anyone who wants to perform Jumu’ah (this Eid prayer), but we will perform Jumu’ah prayer.

Based on the above discussion, it will be sufficient for the person who will perform the Eid prayer even if he does not perform the Jumu’ah prayer according to the correct opinion.

15. Eid prayer on the tour

A. If a person is on a journey and he comes to the (local) people to perform (Eid) prayers, then he should perform (Eid) prayers with them. Similar is the provision of Jumu’ah.

B. If a party travels, it is not permissible for them to establish a Friday or Eid congregation because it is not following the Shari’ah. Because the condition for it to be obligatory is to live permanently.

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the Tawfiq to understand and act properly. Allahumma Amin.
