Characteristics of Momin in the Quran

Today we will discuss 10 characteristics of a Momin.

In verse 111 of Surah Tawba, Allah the Almighty says,

Verily, Allah has purchased the believers’ lives and property from the ( exchange) that, for the Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, then they kill and die. They have rightful promises in the Torah, the Injil, and the Qur’an. And who is better than God in keeping his promise? So rejoice in the bargain you have made. And that is a great achievement.

In the next verse, Allah Ta’ala says,

They repentance, worship, Allah’s admirers, fasting, bower, Prostrate, Order of good deeds, Prohibiter of evil deeds, and Guardian of the limits set by Allah. And give glad tidings to the believers.

Allah (SWT) says in the first verse that He has bought from the believers their lives and property in exchange for Paradise. Then he mentioned the main characteristic of the believers: they fight in Allah’s way, then they kill and die. In return, Allah Ta’ala will give them Paradise.

In the next verse, Allah Ta’ala mentions nine more characteristics of the believers. These are very important for becoming a full believer.

We will now analyze the ten characteristics of the believer described in these two verses one by one, InshaAllah.

1. The number one characteristic of a believer is that they fight in Allah’s way and kill and die.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever dies without jihad or does not have the desire to fight, dies on a part of hypocrisy.

2. The two characteristics of a believer are that they repent.

Narrated from Anas (R)

He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Every child of Adam is a sinner. And the best sinner is the one who repents. (Tirmidhi , Ibn Majah , Darimi)

3. The number three attribute or quality of the believer is that they are worshipers.

Allah the Almighty said:

I created the jinn and mankind only that they may worship Me. Worship is obedience to all aspects of the oneness of God. That is to say, Ibadat is the name of combining all the three aspects of Tauhid with belief in the heart, recognition in the mouth, and implementation in the deeds.

4. The four characteristics of a believer are that they praise Allah.

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala alone because He has created us, provided us with sustenance, guided us, and will give us Paradise in return for His life and property. That is why believers always praise him only.

5. The five characteristics of a believer are that they observe fasting.

Fasting is an act of worship by which Allah can be more pleased. As much as Allah can be pleased with fasting, Allah cannot be pleased with any other form of worship. So the believers fast more and more.

6. The number six attribute or quality of a believer is that they bow down.

Believers bow more and more through prayer. That is bow down before Allah.

7. The seven characteristics of a believer are that they are prostrate.

Believers prostrate more and more through prayer. That is, he bows his head before Allah.

8. The eighth characteristic of a believer is that he commands honest deeds.

Believers always order honest deeds. He commands his subordinates to do good deeds wherever he is in authority. First, we all have authority over ourselves then the head of the family has authority over his family members. In this way, as far as the state is concerned, where there is authority, he orders honest work.

9. The number nine attribute or quality of a believer is that he forbids evil deeds.

Believers always enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. Wherever he is in authority, he commands his subordinates to do good deeds as well as forbids evil deeds.

10. The number ten attribute or quality of the believer is that he guards the boundaries set by Allah.

Believers obey God’s commands and prohibitions. God does not diminish by fulfilling what He has commanded. That is, he observes the obligatory rules properly and does not become intoxicated by abstaining from the prohibitions of Allah, that is, he avoids haraam deeds.

The ten characteristics of a believer that we have discussed are very important which are very important for a believer. These ten characteristics have been described by Allah Ta’ala in two consecutive verses in one place in the Qur’an. In addition to these, many other features are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. Which we will discuss at another time inshaAllah.

May Allah grant us the Tawfeeq to understand things correctly and to acquire all the qualities that a believer needs to have, including those qualities. Allahumma Amin.
