Miraj meaning
The word Miraj is Arabic. It means by which one ascends. It comes from the word ‘Urjun’. Meaning in the dictionary, stairs, steps, steps, ascents, etc. The author of Kamusul Fiqh has given this meaning. The word Miraj is Isme Alar Seegah. Which means rising upwards. Stairs are called mirages as they are a means of going upwards.
In the Shari’a sense, the miraculous staircase by which the Prophet (PBUH) was taken from Baitul Muqaddas to the presence of Allah above the throne above the seven heavens is called Miraj.
In terminology, traveling from Masjid Aqsa to Seven Heavens, Sidratul Muntaha, etc. is called Miraj.
By the command of Almighty Allah, the Prophet (SAW) crossed the limits of human knowledge ascended to the upper world and gained closeness to Allah, and conversed with Him; this phenomenon is called Meraj.
In part of one night, the Prophet (peace be upon him) traveled from Makkah to Baitul Muqaddas up to the seven heavens; And this is Meraj. The travel time from Makkah to Jerusalem by fast camel was 1 month and the return time was 1 month.
Before the Hijrah, the journey from Baitullah to Baitul Muqaddas in the last hour of the Buraq, from there to the presence of Allah through the seven corners through the miraculous stairs, and again to Rayatul Muqaddas, climbing Buraq and returning home to Makkah before dawn is called Miraj.
It should be noted that evidence of Isra is found in the first verse of Surah Bani-Isra’il and Miraj is found in the verses of Surah Nazm (13-18).
When is Shab e Meraj?
There are many differences of opinion regarding the exact year and date of the occurrence of the Miraj, as there was no practice of writing down the year and date when the Miraj of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) occurred. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Askalani said, there are more than 10 opinions in this regard. (Fathul Bari, Volume 7, 203 pages) That is:
1. According to some six months before Hijrah.
2. According to Imam Ibn al-Jawzi, on the night of Rajab 27 of the 12th year of the Prophet. Sayyidul Ambia in Seerah, 268 pages.
3. According to Ibn Sa’d, the Miraj of the Prophet (PBUH) took place on the 17th of Rabiul Awal, one year before Hijrah.
4. In another narration of his, Miraj took place on the seventeenth (17th) of Ramadan Saturday night, eighteen months before the Hijrah to Madinah. Tabakka-tu Ibn-Saad, Volume 1, 166 pages.
5. Allama Ibn Abdul Bar and others said, there was a gap of fourteen months between Miraj and Hijrat. Jadul Maad, 3rd volume, 37 pages.
6. According to Ibrahim Harbi, eleven months before Hijrah.
7. Ibn Faris said, fifteen months ago.
8. Allama Suddi said, seventeen months ago.
9. Eighteen months earlier in the narration of Ibn Qutaiba.
10. According to Ibnul Asir, three years before Hijrah.
11. Narrated by Qazi Yaz Qurtubi and Imam Nabawi from Zuhar; Miraj took place five years before Hijrah. Fathul Bari, Volume 7, 203 pages.
When is Shab e Meraj 2024 in USA?
According to the knowledge of Allama Qazi Sulaiman Mansoorpuri, Miraj took place on the night of Rajab on the seventh of the tenth year of Prophethood. Rahmatulleel Alamin, 70 pages. And we don’t have to know the exact day in this regard. We only believe that the death of Rasool (SAW) took place in his body. That much will be enough for us inshallah. There is no need to celebrate the day of Shabbat Meraj, it is an innovation. And every innovation is depravity whose end is hell.
Shab e Meraj Importance benefits and Ibadat
The most wonderful, significant, and miraculous event in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is Miraj. The amazing events that took place on this night did not happen on any other night. That’s why this night is so precious. This does not mean that special prayers, festivals, majlis, etc. should be performed on this night.
The Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) did not celebrate this night nor give special status to it. Therefore, performing any special worship, festival, majlis, etc. on this night is not according to Shari’at.
In some books, it is mentioned to perform special prayers on that night. For example, after Surah Fatiha in the first rakat, Ayatul Kursi should be recited 100 times and after Surah Fatiha in the 2nd rakat, Surah Ikhlas should be read 100 times. Whoever prays 2 Rakats in that way will not die until he sees the place appointed for him in Paradise.
Prominent Alim Abdul Haque Muhaddith Dehlavi (RA) said that there is no evidence of such a special prayer. It is a baseless prayer.
Namaz is the religion of the believer. It is a widely used fake hadith without evidence. Such words should be avoided. There are many sahih hadiths about prayer, and they must be mentioned.
Designating the night of Mi’raj for worship, performing any religious ceremony in Aira, performing Zikir-Azkar, performing Shabina Khatam and Dua, holding Milad and Waj Mahfil (holding seminars and symposiums), closing educational institutions, declaring public holidays (including national There is a huge loss to the economy), strange stories, fireworks, illuminations, visiting graves, giving charity, performing Umrah in the hope of greater reward in this month, etc. are obvious innovations.
Besides, there are many differences of opinion about the night of Mi’raj. Ijma of Muslims has not taken place in this regard. There is no pure proof of the 27th of Rajab in the books available in the market (this narration is not even from the Prophet (PBUH)).
Umar (RA) saw a group of people fasting in the month of Rajab with great importance. He brought them and said, Eat before me and prove that you are not fasting. Umar (RA) clarified that nothing (bidat) is acceptable without Shariah evidence.
Shaykh Abdullah bin Baz (RA) said there is a great secret from Allah in making people forget the date of Mi’raj. Even if its date had been fixed, no special worship and ceremony of Muslims would have been permitted on that date. Because the Prophet and his Companions did not make any ceremony for it and did not prescribe anything to celebrate on this occasion. Therefore, it is understood that the ceremony of Shabbat Meraj and announcing its dignity is not part of Islam.
Professor Dr. Hafez ABM Hizbullah and many others said that Rajab month comes to us yearly. We witness a group of Muslims performing various ceremonies on the occasion of the Miraj of the Prophet (PBUH). On the night of the 27th of Rajab, various customs and rituals are performed which are not approved by Allah. This kind of worship was not performed by the Prophet (PBUH) and his Companions.
Professor Dr. Md. Asadullah Al Ghalib said, ‘The virtue of the month of Rajab is that it is one of the four honorable months. The remaining three are Zilqad, Zilhajj, and Muharram. Fights and murders are prohibited during these four months. Jahili Arabs also used to stop quarrels and wars in honor of these four months. It has been upheld in Islam as well. (Tawbah, 36)
So it is a great virtue to avoid fights and terrorist activities in honor of this month. It should be noted that during the Jahili period, Arabs used to sacrifice one in the name of their gods and goddesses in the first decade of the month of Rajab. It was called Atirah or Rajabiyah. Imam Tirmizi said they used to offer this sacrifice in honor of the month of Rajab. Because it is the first month of the four safe and honorable months. Some would sacrifice the first arm of their domesticated animal to the gods and goddesses to increase their wealth, which was called Phara. The Prophet forbade this. (Bukhari, Muslim, Mishkat).
Unfortunately, today’s Muslims follow the ignorant Arabs and do all kinds of innovation in the name of the month of Rajab, but they have not been able to stop fighting and fighting in honor of Allah’s order.
Salatur Raghayeb: Many people perform Salatur Raghayeb on the first Friday of the month of Rajab. Imam Ghazali (RA) and Barapir Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) narrated that on the first Friday of the month of Rajab, if one prays 12 Rakats between Maghrib and Isha (in the special manner described by them), then Allah will forgive all his sins. Although it is as numerous as sea foam, tree leaves, and sand.
Nawab Siddique Hasan Khan said about this prayer, this prayer is not proven by any Sahih, Hasan, or Yaif Hadith. Rather, the Muhaddis call it Bid’ah. Muhaddith Abu Shamah said many people have been deceived due to the description of prayer in this book. But the Hafiz of hadith called the related hadith fake; Hafiz Abdul Khattab said Ali Ibn Abdullah Ibn Jahzam is blamed for forging the hadith of Salatur Raghayb.
Allama Suyuti said this hadith is also fake. Allama Shami said this prayer is innovation. Two interpreters of Muraya said that everything that has been described in this regard is a fake hadith. This prayer was discovered after 480 Hijri. Hafiz Ibn Hajar, Hafiz Zahabi, Allama Iraqi, Ibn al-Zawzi, Ibn Taymiyyah, Imam Nawabi, and Suyuti (RA) called the said hadith fake.
Allah deposited 30,000 knowledge in the rosary of Meraj. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not reveal that trust to any common people except his most beloved Companions and Suffah. The words are heinous lies against Allah and His Messenger. This should be avoided.
The Prophet (PBUH) went to the Throne of Allah and took off his shoes. Such words can be heard. This is also completely false. This should be avoided.
Mi’raj’s denial causes men to become women. This is also a complete lie. This should be avoided.
Meraj is said to have attained Tashahhud (Attahiyatu). This is also not correct.
A mirage is said to have taken place in moments. This is also not correct.

The best miracle in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is Miraj. Traveling from Masjid Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa is Isra and traveling from earth to heaven is Miraj.
